9-12 Months Before The Wedding

  • Officially announce your engagement with social media or printed announcement cards

  • Set a wedding date

  • Decide on the type of wedding (small, formal, semi-formal, informal, etc)

  • Begin compiling your potential guest list

  • Select your wedding stationery designer and order save the date cards


6-9 Months Before The Wedding

  • Set up your gift registries

  • Reserve hotel rooms (in varying price ranges) for out-of-town guests

  • Announce wedding date (especially for out-of-town guests) by mailing save the date cards

  • Provide your wedding stationery designer with inspiration pics or pins for your invitation suites


4-6 Months Before The Wedding

  • Finalize design ideas and paper goods needs with your stationery designer

  • Order wedding invitation suites

  • Confirm dates for bridal shower and decide bachelorette party themes

  • Give guest list and wedding stationery designer’s contact information to shower/party hosts

4 Months Before The Wedding

  • Finalize guest list and send to your stationery designer for envelope addressing

  • Assembly and addressing can take up to two weeks so be sure to allow your designer plenty of time


2 Months Before The Wedding

  • Mail invitations at least 8 weeks prior to your wedding

  • Select venue for rehearsal dinner and begin working with your stationery designer on rehearsal dinner invitations

  • Order wedding favors


1-2 Months Before The Wedding

  • Mail shower invitation 4 weeks prior to the shower date

  • Provide your stationery designer with information you would like to include on your ceremony programs and reception menu cards (if food is served buffet style, buffet cards are nice to identify each item)

  • Consider any signage you may need for the ceremony or reception locations.  Think “ceremony this way”, “reception downstairs”, “bar this way”, “#smithspartyoftwo”, etc.

  • Don’t forget to order your coordinated thank you notes too!

  • Arrange bridesmaid luncheon and any other pre-wedding parties


3-4 Weeks Before The Wedding

  • Finalize and order day of stationery - itineraries, maps, programs, menus, signage, etc.

  • Mail rehearsal dinner invitations

  • Consider placecard options... Your stationery designer may be able to custom print these for you to coordinate with your other stationery.  If you prefer hand-lettering, consult a calligraphy artist.


2 Weeks Before The Wedding

  • Call guests who have not responded to invitation

  • Provide wedding party and out-of-town guests with itinerary and maps - email this information if you plan to provide guests with a printed version in person.

  • Finalize seating arrangements and provide your stationery designer with a complete list for creating your custom seating chart poster

  • Prepare place cards (if hand-writing/printing them yourself)

1 Week Before The Wedding

  • Pick up your seating chart poster from print shop

  • Pick up place cards

  • Provide your planner (or designated friend) with all day-of paper goods

After The Wedding

  • Write and send thank you notes as soon as you return from your honeymoon
